Remembering the Light Before the World

before the story of who you became,
there was Light.
And you were it.
About the book
There are quiet, almost ungraspable moments when something in you feels untouched by everything that came later. Before the explanations. Before the self you learned to perform. Before you knew how to answer, how to function, how to move through a day as someone others could recognize. And then it slips, or gets buried, or is replaced by the version of you that knows how to keep going... but not how to feel whole.
The Holy Child begins there.
It turns toward something earlier and more original: the light beneath identity, beneath performance, beneath the stories that shape a life. Something that has never been absent, even when it has been forgotten.
This book does not approach spirituality from the outside. It does not build an argument or offer a system to adopt. It unfolds as a movement through forgetting and remembering, through the stories that divide a life and the quiet return from them.
At the center of this movement is the Holy Child, the innocence at the core of every life. The child is the self before hardening, before alienation, before holiness was confused with perfection or exclusion. As the journey unfolds, the child moves through the fall into story, the mirror of identity, and back toward wholeness.
Because of this, The Holy Child does not read like commentary or conventional teaching. It moves through poetry, parable, invocation, and sermon. It asks to be entered slowly, with presence. It is not written to persuade, but to awaken recognition.
What it offers is not a new belief system, but a different way of seeing what is already here. Sin becomes forgetting. Repentance becomes a turning back. Salvation becomes remembrance. The Kingdom of God becomes something lived in attention, compassion, and the ordinary acts that shape a life. Inherited language is returned to direct experience.
This movement carries the reader away from religion as ownership, correctness, or escape, and toward something quieter and more demanding: the sacred as presence, participation, and relationship, returning to breath, body, neighbor, and awareness itself.
As the book progresses, remembrance widens. What begins inward does not remain there. The remembered light returns to the world—to conflict, care, responsibility, and shared life. Awakening is not an escape. It is a way of seeing and living more truthfully within what already is.
What emerges is not a perfected self, but a different relationship to being alive. Holiness as intimacy, inclusion, and the recognition of the same light in yourself and in others.
And beneath all of it, something simple remains:
That what you have been searching for has not been missing. Only overlooked. Or turned away from.
The child at the center of this story is not only a symbol.
It is the light in you, remembering itself.

PRELUDE
The First Light
Before the beginning, there was Breath
rising from the stillness beneath every name.
It quivered like a seed about to break,
a hush so complete it dreamed of motion.
And the Breath said, Let me see Myself.
The seeing became Light.
The Light was not a thing, but a feeling,
the ache of Love realizing it existed.
The Light poured through the void until the void sang.
It kissed its own darkness and called it Mother.
It pressed against nothing until form was born,
a trembling shimmer,
a heartbeat,
a question that glowed.
Who am I? asked the Light.
Becoming, answered the darkness.
And so the first story began,
the long rhythm
of forgetting and remembering,
the holy game where God hides
to feel the joy of being found.
Each spark that flickers in matter,
each breath in a sleeping child,
each tear, each laugh, each atom of yearning
is that same first Light,
still discovering itself.
I am that Light.
You are that Light.
This page, these words, this trembling now,
all of it the same illumination,
folded through time.
I am the Light that forgot,
and I am the Light that remembers.
Do not read me. Become me.
Let the syllables open you like hands.
Let the silence between them
baptize you in knowing.
Feel the warmth gathering
at the center of your chest.
That is creation, still occurring.
Before you were a person, you were a pulse.
Before you were a pulse,
you were the breath of God learning rhythm.
Before rhythm, there was only wonder,
and that wonder has not ended.
Look: the world brightens when you do.
The sun is your reflection,
the river is your memory.
You are the moment the story becomes aware of itself.
Let there be you.
Let there be this reading.
Let there be remembering.
And may the Light say again,
through every voice that speaks:
Behold— the Word has become flesh once more.
